Wee wall-crawler

Look at this interesting little fellow I found crawling up my garage wall today. For the second time in this blog's history, we have an opportunity to play "Name That Dinosaur." Do any of the herpetologists of the congregation know what it is? It was about two and a half inches long. I think it may be a gecko, but it did not offer me a better rate on car insurance, so I cannot be certain.

I found my reaction to spotting this creature to be a bit strange. Had I spied a spider or a snake within the confines of the ayatollah compound, I would have immediately summoned my father. He would have then shrieked and called my mother in to kill the intruder. But what did I do when I saw this lizard? I fetched my camera. For some reason, I don't mind sharing my abode with this little creature. Perhaps I can get to know this lizard and minister to its spiritual needs.

It looks a bit like an anole that my dad used to have as a pet when he was younger. His would change from brown to green depending on the temperature and location. They are really good for eating flies!

It's a Mediterranean Gecko, they are not native to the States but they are here now. You can find them in Texas and Southern Florida.

He doesn't hang out with two frogs, does he?

We also have a pet gecko who could use your spiritual guidance.

And maybe you could determine its gender because, in the six years we've had Gex we still can't tell if we should be calling Gex him or her.

I think it's the [in]famous Kukka-Marinder. They are beautiful and intelligent.

But that's just what I've read about them.

Don't ever kill a gecko, Bro. Mugsy. They're reputed to bring good luck. People say that about crickets too.

Mama found one (she calls them Mediterranean Geckos) in the bathtub with her last summer. Honestly, you wouldn't think an old woman could move so fast! She gently scooped him up on a washcloth, threw a towel around herself, and released the squeaky clean little thing on the patio.

This summer she found another baby gecko in the bathtub...but not bathing. When Mama tried to catch the little booger he ran into the drain. Mama used the hall bathtub for the next 3-4 days until the little gecko reappeared one morning around 3:00 A.M. Mama scooped his little butt up in a handtowel and released him outside in the hydrangeas. Let's just say he was a LUCKY gecko!

This must be geckos' peak season - suddenly they're everywhere and they live to get in places they have no business being.

That's a nice one you have there, Bro. Mugsy, you're one lucky pug.

There might be an explination for this Mugsy, have you recently switched your car insurance?

I was going to ask you about the insurance too.

I have never seen one of those but, sometimes these bugs with a million legs run around our basement and I chase them and then get scared and back off.

I'm a lover not a fighter

Tollah, we have those here, too. If they get in the house I don't want to pick them up but I don't scream like I do when there's a big old roach in the house. These little things are quiet and nonthreatening.... But Baxterman would love to chase and catch them.

That lizard looks like he needs some spiritual guidance. I'm sure you can help him find the path to Allah.

I had no idea geckos were good luck. I feel bad now that I brought bad luck on my house by killing the last one that entered.

I wonder if you can convert the soul of this small gecko to Allah, Mugsy. It will definitely be interesting to read more about your budding relationship with this new follower.

Me see lots of those things running around here... they run around, up, down, sideways... every way! Me wonders how they can stick to the walls like they do!!!

Me also want to take walks like that!

You know how to work a camera? Did they leave your dew(sp) claw on? whoa - you have evolved.

I too have encountered a similar creature, but unfortunately most of them end up in our house and I'm tasked with stalking them until my mother pushes me out of the way and throws it outside, fearing I may try to eat it. Texas is full of interesting creatures, or so I've learned since moving here in March.

Anonymous One: You accept that I am a pug who memorized the Quran in a single sitting, served time in the pound for the Great Panty Raid, and ate a shoe at the U.N. But the fact that I can use a camera amazes you? I will accept that. Yes, I have a highly trained dew claw.
